Due to new manufacturing of screens one needs to make sure that the operation system is the newest version before changing the screen, otherwise the screen will not work. If the phone has a cracked glass only but is fully working you will be able to update the version easily on the phone. Follow the three simple steps demonstrated in the picture below.

If the phone has a faulty display or water damage you will need to update the version by connecting it to a computer.
